The song is inspired by the environmental consequences we are currently facing as a species.
Thomas Malthus had a theory in the beginning of the 19th century that our exponential growth in population would cause pollution, poverty and hunger.
The lyrics hint to that theory and have an overall "apocalypse now" feel to it.
